From Joensuu to global projects

Jukka Karppinen, originally from Joensuu, started his career in industrial automation after studying at Joensuu University of Applied Sciences. In 2000, he joined Raute Precision and has since worked in similar roles, specializing in PLC programming, HMI systems, and customer training. His work includes programming for material reception, dosing, mixing, and transfer, with a focus on both PLC and user interface programming.

In 2023, Jukka returned to glass business and to LGT, where he saw an exciting opportunity to work on larger projects and travel more. His prior experience in the glass industry made him a natural fit for his current role, and he continues to contribute by handling software development and commissioning projects for various clients. One of his key strengths is his ability to work on upgrades without disrupting ongoing production. A skill that brings significant value to our clients.

A professional with 35 years of expertise

Harri Rintala, who has worked in Päijät-Häme for most of his career, brings an impressive 35 years of experience to LGT. After graduating as the Raahe Institute of Computer Engineering Harri joined Raute in 1989. His early work in process programming eventually took him around the world, managing and commissioning projects in a variety of industries, including over 50 factories.

In 2021, Harri joined LGT as the head of the automation department, where he oversees both electrical and software engineering. His role also involves managing several automation projects while providing support to the sales team. Harri’s extensive experience in international projects and leadership roles ensures that LGT continues to deliver high-quality, reliable solutions to its clients.

The power of collaboration

Harri and Jukka’s partnership began in 2000 when both were working in software engineering and commissioning. Their shared history laid the foundation for a strong collaborative relationship. Today, they continue to work closely at LGT, tackling challenges together and ensuring that projects run smoothly.

In their daily work, communication is key. Whether discussing technical details with colleagues or solving urgent problems, Harri and Jukka emphasize the importance of teamwork. “No one is left alone to figure things out by themselves. You can always ask for help,” says Jukka. This open and supportive environment fosters quick problem-solving, which is crucial in fast-paced, sometimes hectic situations.

Their long-standing collaboration also means they understand each other’s personalities and working styles, which helps when bringing different perspectives to the table. “We don’t argue, but we make sure everyone’s opinion is heard,” Harri explains. This way, they ensure the result is thorough and well-rounded.

Every detail is checked

The close teamwork between Harri and Jukka is not just beneficial for their colleagues, it also directly benefits LGT’s customers. Their collaborative approach ensures that every detail is meticulously checked before a project is handed over. In a field where no two glass factories are alike, customization and accuracy are key.

“We’ve been laying the groundwork since our days at Raute Precision,” Harri notes, “so we don’t have to start from scratch with every new project.” This deep well of experience allows them to respond quickly and efficiently to client needs. Whether it’s answering a technical question or developing a solution for a unique production challenge, Harri and Jukka work together to ensure that customers receive a flawless product.

One example of their recent achievements is the development of three new scales that can replace older models in existing systems, helping clients modernize without major disruptions. Jukka is currently working on an upgrade for another company’s facility, keeping production running while making improvements. A testament to the skill and flexibility of the team.

Testing and commissioning: a cooperative effort

Testing is another area where Harri and Jukka’s collaboration shines. Before any equipment is delivered to the customer, everything is rigorously tested to ensure that even the smallest detail is perfect. The testing process is a joint effort, from conducting initial tests with the manufacturer to overseeing final on-site tests at the customer’s location.

“We simulate the production process as closely as possible,” Jukka explains. “Via the PLC, scales, and remote I/O boxes, we ensure that all devices communicate with each other before the system goes live.This attention to detail ensures that the customer can have confidence in their new equipment from day one.

A work culture that brings significant value to customers

Both Harri and Jukka agree that their strong working relationship makes it easier for new team members to join the fold.
